Why Join the PAAO and what is involved?

Q:  Why should I join the Professional Aircraft Appraisal Organization, LLC?

A - The aircraft appraisal industry is not regulated which means that you do not need to join ANY organization to appraise any aircraft.  However, the objective of the Professional Aircraft Appraisal Organization, LLC (PAAO) is to promote professional development through ongoing training along with mentoring to help ensure your reports are credible and reliable.

From a business perspective, everyone has different needs and objectives.  Your specific needs and objectives will determine your decision.  If you wish to be a part of the largest organization focused exclusively on the evaluation and documentation of aircraft, then you need to join the PAAO.  If you want to take an analytical approach to appraising aircraft that is based on gathering factual data from field visits, then you need to joint the PAAO as no other organization uses field visits on a regular basis.  On the other hand, if your expectation is to sit behind a desk all day turning out numbers without looking at one rivet on the airframe or turning one page in a log book, then the PAAO is not for you but there are other organizations that may be able to help meet your objectives.

Q:  What are the fees involved?

A - Individuals who submit an application to be considered for training and certification as an aircraft appraiser, are required to pay a $50 processing fee with their application.  If the application is accepted, the individual is charged a $550 initiation fee and the first month's dues of $115.  The monthly dues for basic membership are $115.

Q:  What training courses are involved?

A - For basic appraisers, there is a one week, hands-on training program.  Successful completion of this program will authorize the individual to issue aircraft appraisal reports for piston singles and twins under the auspices of the PAAO.  Senior Appraisers will need to start with the basics and also have completed USPAP classes thus assuring compliance with professional appraisal practices. All senior appraisers will follow both USPAP and PAAO standards and ethics.
